unnamedAs anyone who watched a frenzied Bake Off final will testify, there’s nothing like a bit of pressure or healthy competition to bring your baking right up to scratch. Take the WI Centenary Fruit Cake Competition. It’s giving members the chance to share their treasured fruit cake recipes nationally in order to win the chance to have their recipe commercially produced and served at the WI Centenary in 2015. Vats of tea, to cater for the thousands of members already booked for the organisation’s historic milestone, must surely be boiling away as I type.

The ultimate WI bake off kicked off just days ago as members submitted their recipes to their federations for the tasting. Each federation will then send one recipe to the regional heats to be held in spring next year, before a national final in the kitchens of Denman College in November 2014 to unveil the ultimate WI fruit cake. We can’t wait!

Do you have an all-star, fail-safe recipe you’d like to share? Whether it’s a tea-bread, unusual cake, family pudding or comfort bake close to your heart, we’d love to hear about it. Our travels are taking us all around the country and it’s a real privilege to be meeting you all. Like the many rounds of the WI Fruit Cake competition, our journey is only just beginning, but we hope to see you at the AGM for a slice of that winning recipe!
